Moses Lake School District 161 is Hiring a Director of Maintenance Near Moses Lake, WA

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing all aspects of maintenance, repair, and facilities management within the school district. This role involves strategic planning, budget management, team leadership, and ensuring the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of all district facilities. The Director of Maintenance plays a crucial role in creating an environment conducive to student learning and a safe, comfortable workplace for staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Plan, organize and direct the building and ground maintenance, repair and improvement services of the district.
  • Assist in the management of both minor and major bid and other type construction projects from land acquisition through occupancy.
  • Consult with the cabinet, principals, and other supervisors to respond and remedy as quickly as possible unscheduled repairs and breakdowns.
  • Prepare and submit all facility and maintenance related District, State, and Federal reports.
  • Direct and participate in the hiring of maintenance department positions, using district processes and procedures.
  • Supervise and evaluate maintenance personnel in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and School Board policies and procedures.
  • Supervise exempt maintenance department positions.
  • Implement a schedule that provides 24/7 coverage in the instance of an unforeseen emergency and necessary coverage during weekends and when school is not in session.
  • Implement an inventory system for equipment and supplies that ensures security, avoids waste, and plans for the scheduled replacement of necessary items.
  • Participate in long-range district facility planning in an advisory capacity.
  • Recommend and prepare the necessary documents for employment, discipline, or dismissal of all maintenance personnel to the Director of Human Resources. Consult with the custodial supervisor for input on personnel activities involving building custodians.
  • Establish and implement a program of safety, accident prevention, and health maintenance for all employees, including safe and proper use of equipment, vehicles and materials, identification and prevention of hazards, air quality controls, and prevention of accidents and injuries in accordance with OSHA requirements.
  • Provide and monitor a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual system of regular building, equipment, and grounds inspections to meet all federal, state and local requirements and District standards for cleanliness, attractiveness, organization and safety.
  • Maintain historical and current drawings and engineering records describing district facilities, equipment, and grounds.
  • Understand and communicate with the district leadership concerning current developments in the repair, maintenance, and custodial areas through reading, participation in appropriate meetings, workshops, conferences, and involvement in professional organizations.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  • Maintain confidentiality to protect student and employee records and information.
  • Coordinate with other district personnel and outside vendors for the purpose of providing information necessary for making decisions regarding maintenance of the District facilities.
  • Coordinate inspections of all buildings, grounds, systems and their components for needed repairs and improvements, and for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state regulations and safety requirements.
  • Work with the Chief Operating Officer to develop and maintain department budgets, including planning for repairs.
  • Act in an advisory capacity on design features for new district buildings and facilities.
  • Request equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or maintaining facilities in operational use.
  • Perform additional related duties assigned by the Executive Director and/or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Five (5) years of successful experience in facilities maintenance, construction and/or property management, with a minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Leadership and team-building abilities with effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of tools, materials and methods used in the maintenance, repair and improvement of buildings, related facilities, equipment and grounds.
  • Knowledge of building and safety codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices in planning, budgeting and administering a work program
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and environmental sustainability practices.
  • Proficiency in computer applications related to facilities management.
  • Ability to develop work standards.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to determine need for maintenance and repair work, estimate costs and to plan and schedule the work.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to keep records and prepare administrative reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators and the public.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide diversity of individuals.
  • Excellent organizational, budgeting, and project management skills.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools.
  • Ability to regularly walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, climb, work overhead, bend, and twist.
  • Ability to work indoors/outdoors year-round.
  • Ability to work in a variety of situations including but not limited to noise/vibration, toxic conditions, unique hazards.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions.
MANDATORY CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Eligible for employment in the United States.
  • Successful FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint and background check.
  • Washington State Sexual Misconduct Disclosure clearance.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours.
  • Comply with all District policies and operational procedures.
  • Maintain punctuality and regular attendance.
  • Complete annual SafeSchools training.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
